What were my interests in 1968? I
was too young to worry about the draft. ... I had a fish tank of dubious
quality. My fish, when they weren't eating each other, got white spots and died.
Perhaps our story will become a Lifetime channel movie. We met, lost contact, lived our lives and then one day look up at the random table at the nursing home and see each other again.

Ashtabula in those days was a lot like Mayberry on the TV show, good, hard-working people, but with a different accent. They said I “tocked” funny. I said they “tawked” funny. We were people divided by a common language.
When I was a kid, I called the fruit punch flavor 'blood' and the cherry pit flavor tickled and chilled my chest after a hard day of play.

nickels in hand, to be the first to reach the candy counter...
The first time I met her, she was standing at the bottom of the hill on Walnut Beach. North End Fair was opening that night. Roadies were dragging poles and tuning engines on the kids’ rides. She watched them and waited for me. She said hello.
